The Parish Pilgrimage for 2017 on 2nd September began with a visit to the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagan’s near Cardiff. This open air museum contains buildings from all over Wales, re-erected in its extensive grounds. Our party first visited St Teilo’s church where we had a hymn and a prayer. St Teilo’s church has been removed from near Swansea and restored to its original mediaeval condition, with many colourful wall paintings as was commonly done at the time.
After lunch the party attended evensong in the church at St George’s super Ely, in the pretty Vale of Glamorgan, before visiting nearby Drope for tea in the garden of the historic village house lived in by our curate Rhian, where a magnificent spread had been provided by our volunteers. There we enjoyed fellowship together in a beautiful rural setting.
The only shadow on an otherwise wonderful day was that Rhian was unwell, and the following day needed to be admitted to hospital. She is now making a steady recovery.
